Visual Poetry #23 (The Zen of Stillness)

The Zen of Stillness-November 10, 2012 152

…I encountered this bird on my way to a coffee shop…in “perfect stillness” …afraid that the bird might fly away, i immediately seized the moment and hurriedly pressed the shutter-release button…I’ve learned three of the most important life skills from photography: how to be mindful, how to be silent and how to be still…these, to me, are the gifts of solitude…just like that bird in the profundity of being alone…I discerned a still point…stability…clarity…and then this wonderful poem by Chris McCombs cuts right to the core of stillness:

Go Deeper

Go deeper

Past thought
Into silence
Past silence
Into stillness

Deeper still
Past stillness
Into the Heart

Let the Love
Whatever is left of you

…i love how the poet incorporated the heart and love in stillness…this, I believe, is the essence…

I couldn’t decide if the whispers of the words drew the photo or the photo drew the poem to it
    they seem entwined….beautifully paired….and I love the photo…
